APM Acquires Exclusive U.S. Distribution Rights to New West One Music Library

Production Music Giant Adds New 30-Disc Collection to Family of Music Libraries

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2003) Associated Production Music (APM) -- which provides a comprehensive 175,000 track collection of music for use in film, television, advertising and new media production -- has acquired exclusive North American distribution rights to the West One music library, a new, wide-ranging collection of more than 1300 tracks including the latest pop/rock, electronica and diverse world music ranging from Turlough Carolan, Ireland’s most famous harpist, to traditional South American and Southeast Asian selections.

“West One is an important new production music library with an exceptionally high level of creative and engineering talent behind it.  Their composers share responsibility for some of the most memorable film scores of recent years,” said APM President Adam Taylor.  “And the music is as authentic as it gets.  When West One records classical tracks, they round up the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.  When they recorded their newly released Cuban music album ‘Sabroson,’ they went to Cuba and produced it there,” continued Taylor.

Six of the 30 discs in the West One music library feature the music of veteran BAFTA-winning film and television composer Richard Harvey, who created the original musical score for the motion picture “Luther” starring Joseph Fiennes and Peter Ustinov.  Harvey performed as a soloist on the “Lion King” soundtrack and has collaborated with artists Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello.  Others include Graham Preskett, who has collaborated with Hans Zimmer on numerous film scores.   Preskett also arranged music for artists Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and Tom Jones and played solo violin on the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack.

“The West One music library was created with a very specific purpose. Every selection has been designed to work in the context of a film, television, radio or new media production”, said West One General Manager Michael Shaw.  “The music has been created with that in mind, to give sound editors and music supervisors maximum flexibility.  So many of the more layered, overdubbed tracks are also recorded as lighter underscores so they don’t compete with voice over, dialogue or picture.  For those tracks with promotional or advertising potential, we added thirty second versions as well,” continued Shaw.

The West One album “Utopia,” features music from composer Henry Jackman, who also produced the song “In the Beginning” featuring a duet by singers Richard Marx and Donna Lewis.  “In the Beginning” was the title track for the Twentieth Century Fox animated feature film “Anastasia”.  The song peaked at number one on the Radio and The Records Adult Contemporary airplay chart.  He also composed “This Could Be Heaven” with internationally acclaimed recording artist Seal for the motion picture “The Family Man,” starring Nicholas Cage.  Jackman has engineered and performed on commercial releases for tracks featuring Elton John, LeAnn Rimes and Coolio, among others.

The newest additions to the West One music library include “Mesmerise,” a high-energy, ambient progressive dance music compilation by various composers and “Route 66,” featuring traditional and contemporary country and rock-country music by composers Patrick Murdoch, Michael Rheault and Tim Willis.

West One expects to add 22 more CDs to its library by the end of the year, with the next three albums scheduled for an April 2004 release, including the upcoming retro 80s album “Breakbeat,” a mix of television styles and news channel themes titled “Channel Branding” with plenty of underscores as well as sixty, forty and twenty second versions and “Solo Voice,” featuring uplifting, crescendo-building choir and orchestral compositions.

Since its introduction in the U.S., West One tracks have been used in television advertisement and industrials for Pepsi, BMW, Wendy’s and Solomon, Smith, Barney.  APM clients are invited to audition the West One library online at www.apmmusic.com by selecting the “SEARCH & DOWNLOAD” and then the “SEARCH APM” option.  Music supervisors and sound editors who would like access to the library should contact APM +1 (310) 461-3211 and ask to be connected to an account services representative.
